Introduction to Ayurveda

Ayurveda is the age old healthcare practice, which was prevalent in ancient human civilisations of Indian subcontinent, using traditional knowledge & wisdom about life & longevity.

Originated around 5000 to 6000 years back (not known exactly, may be much before than that), Ayurveda is considered to be derived from four oldest sanskrit scriptures or Vedas- Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, Atharvaveda.

The fundamental principle of Ayurveda revolves around Panchamahabhoota ( the five elements of universe)- Ether/space (Akash), Air (Vayu) Fire (Agni), Water (Jal), Earth (Prithvi). All entities of universe are made out various permutations & combinations of these basic five elements.

The five elements give rise to three types of Ayurveda Energies (also known as three Dosha or three powers)- Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Three dosha are responsible for maintaining the order & disorder state of human body. These order & disorder states can be managed by manipulations of three dosha, which happens knowingly or unknowingly by human connection with the surrounding nature.
