Holistic health, holistic life
First International AYURVET-‘Ayurveda & Veterinary’ CONCLAVE from 17th March to 19th March 2023 was jointly organised by ‘Uttarakhand Ayurved University‘ and ‘Deendayal Kamdhenu Gaushala Samiti’ at Rishikul Ayurveda College Campus, Haridwar, Uttarakhand. It was a unique program, first of its kind in the world, to integrate Ayurveda with Veterinary Science.
The Conclave was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjeev Balyan, Union Minister of State for Animal husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries ; along with Dr. Chinmay Pandya, Pro Vice Chancellor of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya ; Mr. Suresh Bhaiya Joshi ji from Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh; Mr. Shankar Lal ji from Akhil Bhartiya Gau Sanrakshak Sewa Samiti and Dr. Sunil Joshi VC Uttarakhand Ayurved University.
Addressing the Conclave, Dr. Sanjeev Balyan said, “I am connected from both the sides of this Conclave. Connected with Ayurveda by birth, as my father is an BAMS doctor; and connected with animals professionally, being a Veterinary Science Doctor. I have worked as a Veterinary surgeon in Haryana state. I found that there were many diseases in animals for which there is no cure in allopathy. Later, few elderly people suggested me some of the Ayurvedic treatment for such diseases, which was quite helpful. Moreover, the Ayurvedic treatment was much cheaper than allopathic treatment with antibiotics in such diseases. Then I realised that we should revive the use of Ayurveda in Veterinary science which was being used from times immemorial.”
He added that Central Government of India has already started Research to validate the use of Ayurveda in animal husbandry. Attempts are also being made to include Ayurveda in the syllabus of Veterinary Science. The Government will fully support any Research projects in this field from any institution.
Addressing the Conclave, Dr. Sunil Joshi said that Animal health care has been a crucial part in the history of Indian Civilization. Ayurveda, being the holistic health care system of medicine, has provided much knowledge in this field like Gavayurveda ( Ayurveda for cows), Ashwayurveda ( Ayurveda for horses), Hastayurveda ( Ayurveda for elephants) etc. which we need to reinvigorate in modern times.
Addressing the program on the Final day, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that India, since ancient Vedic times, has implemented traditional knowledge in the field of livestock health through Ayurveda. Ayurveda gives the message of “Sarve Santu Niramaya” (may all be free from illness) which is an integral part of our rich heritage. Livestock is the great strength of our country, taking care of their health is our prime responsibility.
He said that Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in his “Panchpran targets” development strategy has laid emphasis on saving this rich ancient heritage and traditional knowledge to achieve the country’s development goal. Ayurveda is not only a treatment method but also a way of leading an ideal life. It does not only provide the cure, but by adopting Ayurveda, we can also prevent any disease or sickness.
He added that Uttarakhand is blessed by nature. Many rivers flow here perennially and major part of the land is covered with forests. Due to the abundance of herbs in Uttarakhand, Ayurveda has more importance in the state. World’s richest and most efficient animal health care traditions exist in the villages of Uttarakhand. The government is committed to strengthen Veterinary services in Uttarakhand. All efforts are going on for promoting Ayurveda and increasing the supply of Ayurveda medicines in veterinary hospitals.
Swami Ramdev from Patanjali Ayurved; Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj and other dignitaries also shared their valuable insights on the topic. More than 1500 delegates participated in the AYURVET-‘Ayurveda & Veterinary’ Conclave including doctors, Research scholars, teachers, students and social workers from various institutions.
